CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR PHOTOS CONVERTED INTO WONDERFUL HAND-DRAWN CARICATURES.
Hey guys,
Every day, I get an email or two from folk asking me where they can get their photos converted into personalised caricatures so I thought I’d use this post to discuss my personal recommendations.
Over the years, I’ve tried out a number of different caricature companies, each with varying degrees of satisfaction in terms of both the quality of the work and customer satisfaction.
Rather than moan about the few bad experiences I’ve had, I’d rather tell you about the great service I received from one caricature artist in particular.
A couple of mates of mine were getting married and with just a week before the big day, I realised that I hadn’t bought them a gift yet.
Over the years we’d known each other, my friends and I had a tradition of getting each other unique, personalised and sometimes weird gifts so I began to rack my brains for something cool to give them for their Wedding Day. After much thought and Internet browsing I decided on getting them one of these awesome wedding caricatures.
Having set my heart on getting them A3 prints of a wedding-themed caricature I noticed that the website stated that all caricatures would take 5 days to be drawn and delivered. As I only I had just over a week before the Wedding ceremony, I started to worry that I wouldn’t receive my order in time.
My fears were calmed after a quick phone call to the company, who were very understanding and promised to rush my order through as quickly as they could. I also noted how polite and courteous the gentleman at the other end of the line was (something quite rare in this day and age).
The order process was very simple indeed. I downloaded a couple of photos of my friends from FaceBook and emailed them to the company, paid with my credit card and they did the rest.
I received my order in four days, giving me plenty of time to get it wrapped and prepare my speech before the celebration.
The quality of the A3 print was top-notch and it the happy couple absolutely adored it – it now hangs above the fireplace in their home.
So, if your looking for an awesome personalised caricature for a friend, relation or colleague, I can happily recommend these guys.
Of course, I don’t claim to have to tried out every personalised caricature artist in the UK, but in my experience these are the best.
If your a caricature artist or work for a company that provides caricatures from photographs and would like me to review your services, drop me an email via danny@personalisedcaricatures.co.uk.

Hey Guys,
In this post, I want to share with you a video I found that show you how to draw personalised caricatures step-by-step for yourself.
The tutorial is by professional cartoonist and illustrator Danny Page and although it only shows the basics, there’s a mountain of information that will be useful for any budding caricature artist. Click here for more information on what a caricature artist does.
If you’d prefer to purchase a professional hand-drawn personalised caricature, check out these guys – they’re my current recommended supplier.
In this clip, I’m going to teach you how to draw caricatures – basically exaggerated cartoon versions of someone’s real face and we’re going to be using Yours Truly as an example.
So, what your going to do is highlight this person’s really obvious distinguishing features. You’re going to take what you see and exaggerate it greatly and in doing so, I don’t know, most of the time it’s just good for a laugh.
So, what do we see in this particular drawing? Well, for one, the subject kind of has a high forehead and he obviously has some other distinct features. We’ll start with the forehead first and we’re going to draw this guys hair going back and we’ll throw a few fun little spikes in there just to exaggerate that there’s a few messy unkept portions of the hair.
So, we’ve established the outer lines of the face and we’ve definitely exaggerated the forehead. Now, what’s the second most obvious feature? That’s right, the glasses, so we’re going to draw those. They’re clear as day – you can’t ignore them. We’re going to draw the outer edges first – there’s nothing really to exaggerate about them except that they’re there. Everything else is going to have to just work around them.
We’re actually going to draw the eyes on top of them. Now we’re going give ourselves some boundaries by drawing in the eyes. I usually like to start by drawing the eyes but in this case, we’re going to make an exception. We’ll draw the eyes coming over over the glasses and they kind of look a little bit far apart, so we’ll exaggerate that as well.
By putting the eyelids in the corners of the eyes, you kind of showcase that they are a little bit far apart. Then we draw the eyebrows also kind of far apart to highlight the fact that eyes are far apart.
Now, let’s give the eyes some life. Take your time and get those as good as you possibly can – they are important. I’m going to make the eyebrows a little a bushier – anything that kind of makes the picture funnier.
Now another big thing is it looks like I’ve kind of got a bigger nose (at least in this picture anyway), so we’re going to draw the base of the nose and the edges of it.
And, it looks like my mouth is kind of small (in this picture anyway) so we’re going to highlight the fact that I have a small smile.
And the pictures coming together already. Fill in a few of the details and make sure the picture’s a little more clear. Kind of pointy ears – they don’t really pop out though so I’m not going to do a whole lot to exaggerate them.
But essentially that is how one would go about drawing a caricature. We highlight the person’s most obvious over-exaggerated features, we jump on them and enhance them, so to speak.
And there you go. That is basically how you draw caricatures.

Hey guys,
I only have time for a quick post today as I’m going ‘back to school’ to see my two eldest children compete in this years sports day
A personalised caricature makes a great gift in itself when sketched on a piece of paper, however in this digital age it is possible to have the picture scanned into a computer and reprinted on a multitude of different gift items and souvenirs.
Of course, the only limit to what your caricature is printed onto is your own imagination but here I will present some of the most common choices for unique personalised caricature gifts.
So, your personalised caricature is not just resigned to the paper it was originally drawn on. It can be used and re-used in a number of different ways both online and offline.
I’d love to hear the weird and wonderful ways you’ve used your own personalised caricatures in the comments section below

Caricature artists draw cartoon-like portraits of people.
The artist will draw reference from the subject’s physical features and distort, warp and exaggerate them to create a personalised caricature that resembles real-life.
For example, if a person has slightly larger than average ears, their caricature may have drastically large and oversized ears.
The photograph below shows a caricature alongside the real-life person that it represents. Although the caricature is very different from the subject, there are also many identifiable features that create a resemblence.
As you can see in this example, the caricature artist has focused on the beard and receding hairline of the person he or she is drawing. In the artist’s interpretation, the beard is the subject’s most identifiable feature, which is why they have exaggerated the beard in their drawing by making the chin, cheeks and length of the beard hair larger.
If you cover the lower half of the caricature’s face with your hand, you will observe that all the facial features in the top half are in proportion (more or less). Think about what you would expect for the lower half of the face if you hadn’t seen the whole picture. When you move your hand away, you will see just how over-exaggerated the lower half is.
Caricature artists can be found the world over and no two caricatures of the same person will be the same because each artist will have their own interpretation and put their own spin on their pictures.
You will often see caricature artists plying their trade at large events, markets and fayres and for a few quid you can have your own custom caricature drawn.
They can also be hired at very reasonable prices forspecial occasions such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries, where they will mingle with the guests and supply their caricature-drawing services.
You can also purchase personalised caricatures online and the artists will draw a likeness based on a photograph you supply to them. These can make great unique gifts for family, friends and loved ones.
